About Us

The Calgary Firefighters Association is affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) as Local 255, representing more than 1400 Calgary Firefighters. Local 255 is the third largest IAFF Local in Canada and is comprised of Fire Fighters, Apparatus Technicians and Maintenance Staff.

Organized in 1917 as Local 19 of the Federal Fire Fighters Union, Calgary Firefighters affiliated with the IAFF on October 4, 1923. The Calgary Fire Fighters Association has grown and evolved over the years but our mandate has always remained the same.

Strength through united action, guided by intelligence is the hallmark of trade union organizations. Such unity is believed essential for the mutual protection and advancement of the interests and general welfare of the Members of the Calgary Firefighters Association, the objects of which shall be: to organize all Members of the Association, to secure just compensation for their services and equitable settlement of their grievances, to promote the establishment of just and reasonable working conditions, to place the Members of the Association on a higher plane of skill and efficiency, to promote harmonious relations between labour and management, and to cultivate friendship and fellowship amongst Association Members.

The Calgary Firefighters Association has proudly represented Calgary Firefighters for more than 100 years. We will build on the solid foundation established by our forbearers, always respecting tradition as we embrace the future in our enduring effort to improve the quality of life for our members and their families.
